AEM and Superior Essex Communications hosted a technology forum on Tuesday, October 19 in conjunction with GITEX Global in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. GITEX Global is the UAE’s annual technology event, highlighting innovations and digital advancements of the region.

The forum, titled PowerWise Technology Forum, included AEM’s manager of technical services Steve Cowles and Superior Essex’s vice president of marketing Brian Ensign, along with Superior Essex international sales director Paul Weintraub, Sinclair Digital chief executive officer Farukh Aslam, and Sinclair Digital chief business officer Luis Suau.

PowerWise is Superior Essex’s product line that supports Power over Ethernet transmission. The forum addressed a broad collection of topics related to smart building infrastructure, including a focus on sustainability.

“This forum allows us the unique opportunity to bring together different perspectives to discuss the future of sustainable, intelligent buildings,” said Ensign. “Superior Essex is leading the way toward sustainable buildings with our sustainably made cables, and we are proud to partner with other companies who want to reduce their environmental impact as well.” “AEM has a strong focus on environmental, social, and governance [ESG] operating principles,” added Cowles. “Even as we focus on innovation to truly transform our company as a global leader in semiconductor and electronics test solutions, our sustainability strategy focuses on the three key pillars: saving our planet, investing and caring for our people, and growing sustainable profit. I am pleased to have the opportunity to discuss our smart building infrastructure test solutions, with leading Power over Ethernet test capabilities.”

The host companies explained this forum builds on their commitment to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which are calls-to-action to countries to examine current practices and adopt sustainable development. AEM, Superior Essex, and Sinclair have adopted these goals for their own business practices.

“For Superior Essex, sustainable manufacturing—such as eliminating waste—has been an important goal,” the company said. “PowerWise is an industry-leading Power over Ethernet cable and earlier this year, the 1G 4PPoE and 10G 4PPoE extended distance cables received Sustainable Intelligent Building 1G and SIB 10G UL Verification and certification up to 160 meters. This objective, science-based assessment verifies that these products deliver performance beyond 100 meters. PowerWise cables provide optimized performance for Power over Ethernet applications and contribute two credits to LEED certification. These cables create better environments for people who use them.”

AEM collaborates with suppliers to ensure their sustainable processes and verifies those processes through their testing. All the company’s key fabrications suppliers are in line with AEM sustainability requirements. “We have a lower energy consumption rate per monetary unit of sales and emission intensity ration by 12.7%,” Cowles detailed. “We continue to engage with the community and develop more partnerships with charity organizations to improve our community’s welfare.”

More than 60 people attended the event on October 19. Superior Essex also will attend Intelligent Cities Exhibition and Conference in Cairo October 27 and 28.
