TIA webinars to present details on SPIRE criteria

SPIRE was launched in 2020 by UL with support from TIA’s Smart Buildings Working Group to provide building owners and managers with a comprehensive methodology for measuring and benchmarking the performance of smart buildings.

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has announced a new 2-part webinar series to present details on criteria for for the SPIRE Smart Building Assessment and Rating Program. Part 1 of the series, to be held on October 27, 2021 at 8am PT/11am ET, will examine the finer points of assessing building connectivity, cybersecurity, and safety.

TIA announced details for its first of two live webinars in partnership with UL and TIA’s Smart Buildings Program sponsors, Corning and MachineQ, a Comcast Company.

The event's panel of guest speakers, including experts from TIA’s Smart Building Industry Working Group, will take attendees through three of the six assessment criteria categories of SPIRE, billed as the industry's first holistic smart buildings assessment and rating program.

Industry experts featured in Part 1 of the webinar series include:

  • Moderator: Sudhi Sinha, Vice President of Ecosystem and New Service Development, UL
  • Gayla Arrindell, Director of Market Development for In Building Solutions, Corning
  • Jason Christman, Vice President and Chief Product Security Officer, Johnson Controls
  • Dan Michaud, Associate Principal and Sr. Technology Consultant, Arup
  • Mia Raths, Property Manager, MRP Properties

According to TIA, Part 1 of the series will cover criteria categories: Connectivity, Cybersecurity, and Life & Property Safety. Part 2 will cover criteria categories: Sustainability, Power & Energy, and Health & Wellbeing

Panelists will share how the six different categories and subsequent criteria were developed, how the program measures performance and provides building owners and managers with the information they need to drive more effective technology investment strategies.
